End of Scheduled Posting

You probably noticed  I didn't post on time this week. I stuck to a schedule for as long as I could, but now all I have is filler. It's become so difficult to write non-pertinent articles in relation to the game, it's been cutting into development. As of this post, there will no longer be a standard schedule, posts will only come out when there is more information to post.

We hope to have the exploration part of the game completed by June 13th, and ready to launch alongside the 3.0 firmware.

There may be a new Mobile Pokédex website launching soon, so that once the game launches, it will serve as a way to access account information.

So, spread the word, sign up for the RSS feed, do whatever. You'll hopefully see a complete portion of the game in about a month!

  1. omg! This thing looks pretty cool. So it is like a pokemon game for mobile devices? Is it playable now? I'm on my iPod touch, so can I still get on it? Well keep up the good work! This thing could really go far...

  2. So, answering your questions in order: Yeah, it's an experiment trying to bring Pokémon to mobile phones in a new and creative way. It's not playable now (we're hopefully going to release part of the game mid-July). The third post in April talks about functionality with devices besides the iPhone.

Elaborating a bit on the release -- it will be only the exploration part. This means that you won't be able to capture, battle, trade, visit Pokémarts, etc. All you'll be able to do is walk around and see local Pokémon. The next update to that is Pokémon Centers/Trainer Homes/Pokémarts. After that the next release will be final game (hopefully). We've chosen to release the game like this simply because it's the easiest way to test the scalability of our code, and balance the game before it's final release. Hope this helped!

  5. Hey Randy,

I'm actually writing a new post that should cover that, but it's definitely coming out *soon*. I know in my last post I said that I would have part of the game out a couple weeks ago -- but since it's not on any strict schedule it's been taking longer than I expected to get completed. I don't want to set a release date, since I have no way of sticking to it, but we are still working on the game, and we want to get it into the App Store as soon as possible!

    Hope that answers your question,
    James

  7. ahhh! when is this thing gonna come out?! I've been waiting like forever! well anyways I'm not giving up on ya just yet, but is there an update on the release date or anything?!?

  8. Don't give up yet! It's being coded, just very slowly at the moment. It's looking up, though, we may bring another talented coder onto the team. As far as release dates go, just keep checking in. As we reach major milestones in coding, we'll produce demo videos. I don't want to provide a release date again until we get closer to completion. Unfortunately the only way for this to get completed quicker is for us to get a talented Objective-C coder. If you know any, point them in my direction!

  10. I wish I could say that a release was in the future. At this point, I would say the project has been "indefinitely suspended". As much as I would love to get this released to the public, I'm not able to find an Objective-C coder able to create this game. I was able to create the framework code, and there's already a server up and running with a written protocol, so all we need is a frontend. It's unfortunate that we got so close to a release and had to essentially halt the project. If anyone still reading this knows *anyone* who would like to help out with coding a frontend for the project (I suppose Android or iPhone would work), they can contact me at lifeasgonzo@gmail.com or through the email provided in my profile.

  11. Hello,

Not sure if you still check here, but just in case, I wanted to let you know I sent an E-Mail to lifeasgonzo@gmail.com regarding some people who might be interested / capable of helping your project out.

Additionally, just curious... going by the mock-up of this game on your first post back in February, is there any concern regarding the players' privacy? It's interesting to think you could encounter a "trainer" in real life if you're within proximity, but some people might not be too keen on being "found".

    Just a thought.

  12. yes I agree with the comment above. also is there any update on the release? thanks

  13. Hey Codemonkey85, I got your email and am looking into contacting the people you recommended.

As far as privacy goes, there would be fully customizable privacy settings, so you could be seen by everyone, a list of friends or no one.

No progress has been made on the game since I last posted here, I won't have time to continue the game in any major capacity for at least the next few years. The most I would be able to do is direct the project, and continue writing for the blog as it's made. I'm hoping that I can find some coders to continue this project on, as it's in a very workable state at the moment, and has a solid base to code off of. The release of Android 2.0 certainly makes it a more viable platform, which opens up development opportunities -- so we'll see what happens.

  14. James has there been any updates on the game, since you last posted. I really wish you can make the game possible and if you need a beta tester I would be willing to try anything.

  16. This looks really promising. I wish I knew Objective C. I'd help you. I would really like to see this finished.
